SeeN out of London exhibition

This weekend 19th to 20th June 2010
Following a successful exhibition at last year’s Oxhill Village Scarecrow Festival: seven local artists and makers are to return again to this year’s festival over the weekend of 19th to 20th June 2010. The SEEN Out Of London Group will be exhibiting new and exciting work in The Old Chapel (on Main Street in Oxhill), which is a beautiful and peaceful building, dating back to 1814, but, recently renovated to a high contemporary standard by the Reverend Jill Tucker.
The exhibition will start with a launch party on the evening of Friday 18th from 7pm to 9pm then it will be open from 10am to 5pm on both the Saturday and Sunday for you to come and meet the artists, fall in love with their work and buy directly from them! The artists in the group are: Amy Harris, modern knitted and felt textile designer; Christine O’Sullivan, vibrant abstract painter; Claire Reika Wright, abstract and digital artist; Gemma Wheeler, silversmith and jeweller; Lucy Tustian, contemporary stained glass artist; Penny Varley, ceramicist; and Sarah B. Smith, artist and illustrator.
Highlights of the exhibition will include: new quirky and humorous screen printed, hand-finished chickens from Sarah; an innovative interactive 3-D electronic tour of digital worlds from Claire; new glass garden panel designs from Lucy; innovative hand-rolled felt bead necklaces and bright handbags from Amy; new and vibrantly colourful “Art and the City” paintings from Christine - inspired by maps, city plans, skyscrapers and reflections of the urban landscape; and stunning new developments in twisted wire & silver quilling from Gemma.
Plus there will be the chance to guess the name of the scarecrow and win a Sunday lunch for two at the Peacock Country Pub, Oxhill, whilst raising money for the Warwickshire Air Ambulance charity!

Visit Veritas, North Bar, Banbury, to see my work on display as part of the Artweeks Banbury Art Town Trail. Veritas is ‘H’ on the map. The Art Trail Map can be down loaded from the Artweeks website or a copy can be picked up at venues taking part.
The venues are listed in alphabetical order starting with ‘A’ at the Tourist Information Centre in Castle Quay where there are a few examples of my work too.

Ginny Gray Gallery contemporary art & crafts gallery in the centre of historic Buckingham has some of my original canvases, limited edition giclee prints and packs of greeting cards. The new gallery has a range of work including Ginny’s own hand made silver jewellery and work from Claire Reika Wright.

Parkside Arts Christmas gift weekend

Saturday 21st November from 11.00 - 5.00 and Sunday 22nd from 11.00 - 2.00.
The Parkside Arts artists who formed an art co-operative so successfully for Artweeks this year, are having an open house weekend to show and tempt you with their Christmas gift pieces. As before, all three venues will be signed and flagged so look out for the houses of Christine O’Sullivan (Park Road), Steve Gold (Queens Road) and Jane Russ (Kings Road). Their houses are all within two minutes of each other and would make a very enjoyable ‘gift circuit’ for visitors. To double the interest, Christine, Steve and Jane have each invited another artist from a different discipline into their exhibition space and all six will work together to give the visiting public a really enjoyable experience.

* Vibrant, abstract and geometric are words that describe the paintings of Christine O’Sullivan, who uses line and space with vigour in her work. Gemma Wheeler the jeweller/silversmith, is exhibiting with Christine and in her work she manipulates the surface of silver with etching, creating texture and pattern.
* Steve Gold is a photographer with a particular interest in urban and architectural subjects and his work has a strong, powerful edge to it. The coloured glass artist Lucy Tustian is showing her functional and decorative pieces with Steve, she uses recycled and hand-made coloured glass; art with a low energy footprint.
* The painter Jane Russ is actually showing off the weaving pieces she has made this summer, bags, back packs, scarves etc. all made mixing had crafted tweeds with sumptuous coloured velvets. Parkside Arts partner is Alison Beaumont, the felt maker who produces a range of homewares and wearables, felted from soft merino wool and silk, in rich vibrant colours. Also pegloom rugs woven from local fleece, making the most of their natural colours and textures.
